VEGETABLE BED 

Vegetable bed is a piece of land prepared inform of a bed to sow and raise vegetables

TYPES OF VEGETABLE BED

They are two types of vegetable bed
1. Raised bed
2. Sunken bed

RAISED BED in raised bed garden soil or top soil is dug, pulverised more soil can be added to soil them headed together to form a hill upon which the vegetables are grown.

SUNKEN BED in sunken bed garden soil or top soil is dug and set aside then the deeper clay soil is dug and used to create hill around the bed. The soil us the returned into the trench plant are grown in the trench.


ADVANTAGES OF RAISED BED

1. It is good where the soil made of clay and poor water drainage
2. It helps to eliminate root rot and many fingus disease
3. It can be used to vegetable at any period



ADVANTAGES OF SUNKEN BED

1. It can be used to improve on Sandy soil with too much drainage
2. The bill gives small amount of shade during the day
3. It retains moisture especially in the north with less rain



SOWING SEEDS

SEED SOWING is the act of planting of seed or seeding In an already cultivated land or vegetable bed

METHOD OF SOWING SEEDS

1. Broadcasting is the scattering of seeds by hand all over the prepared field this can be followed by covering with planks or palm fronds.
2. Drilling or Line sowing it is the dropping of seeds into the soil with help of implement such as seed drill seed-cum-ferti drill or mechanical seed drill
3. Dibbing this is the placing of seed in the field manually with the help of a dibbler 
4. Transplanting it is the raising of seedlings in the nursery beds and transplanting of seedling in the prepared field.
